A place for animal shelter, history, conservation, and recreation.

Our mission is to provide shelter and sanctuary to farm animals, promote the rich history of the area, utilize sound conservation and agricultural practices, educate and engage our communities.

We are one place doing many things,

united by

compassion

respect

perseverance

We have Compassion for the animals in our care.

Our Shelter

Cracker Box Palace is our farm animal shelter. We are the only shelter for farm animals in our area, working with county and local humane societies to take in animals subject to abuse or neglect, and nurture them back to health. Our residents - currently around 150+ horses, pigs, goats, sheep, cows, geese, chickens, rabbits and a few patrolling farm cats and more -- They welcome your visit and any interest you may have in adoption.

We Respect our history and the natural world.

Our animals live in farm buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places and on a property with deep ties to the region’s distinctive history. Alasa Farms was the site of not one, but two utopian communities in the 19th Century, with two buildings from the Shaker period still surviving.

If you love history, there is so much for you to see

and do at Historic Alasa Farms.

We Persevere and work hard.

Those who came before us, as custodians of the land, worked hard. Their ability to persevere characterized their presence here, and remains central to our ethics today.

Working hard is important and so is working together. We've made a commitment this year to move toward hay self-sufficiency.

Consider joining our group for our summer hay harvests!
